What do you want, a medal? - burnt out/still glowing
What do you want, a medal?
Grandad was gravely ill in hospital and we were sorting through his life and belongings. i found a wooden chest containing his Air Force Service papers and in it the mention of 2 medals he earned during WWII. nobody in the family knew he had earned any. he never spoke of the war, ony that he hates rice because he ate it too often while stationed in India. i wrote to the Ministry of Defence a month ago asking if it were possible for Grandad to finally obtain the medals he's entitled to, but apparently never claimed. he's the sweetest most docile persn i've ever met and doesn't like to bother anybody. he kills a few Nazi's and 60+ yrs later still hasn't got the recognition for it. a true inglorious basterd. i thought it'd be nice to surprise him, especially with him being 88, having a fall, shattering his shoulder and having all these infections recently that had brought him to the brink. today i got a response from the MoD. a package, infact. no bureaucracy as i expected. no need for proof of I.D. four boxes. four medals! i am quite chuffed. the Burma Star is my favourite.

this makes me happysadproud. almost makes me wanna go fight in a war or something. almost
